I’ve always been a huge fan of L’Oreal skincare so when the brand reached out to me to try out their new Pure-Clay Cleansers and 3 Mineral Clays + Seaweed Mask, I was estatic! I haven’t seen many clay cleansers on the market and L’Oreal also has masks that match these cleansers so I do think this line is very innovative. As for the newest mask, I loved the idea of a sea blue coloured mask! However, as much as I love packaging and new launches, it’s all about how they actually perform.

Detoxify + Brighten Cleanser (charcoal)

This was the cleanser I was the most excited for. I own the pure-clay mask that matches this cleanser which I enjoy and actually use on my boyfriend often. I have combo-oily skin and past acne scars so a cleanser that detoxifies and brightens is exactly what I want. The product description of this cleanser says that it’s a clay-to-mousse formula which is absolutely true. When you first squeeze the product out of the bottle it doesn’t look like a cleanser, but a a thick mask. Once you start spreading it on your face it turns into a foamy mousse right away. It also has the same smell as the matching mask which is ok. Not a great or horrible scent in my opinion. I followed up with a moisturizer and the next morning my skin was so CLEAR. I don’t know how else to explain it but my skin was actually glowing and I skipped foundation that day. I’ve been continuing to use it a night and love it!

Purify + Mattify (Eucalyptus)

Since I have combo-oily skin, I always wake up in the mornings with a oily mess in my t-zone. This cleanser claims to mattify and purify the skin right away. I find that this cleanser isn’t at thick at the black one but still has a nice consistency. The product is a bit more liquidy which isn’t a big deal at all. I LOVE the smell of this cleanser! It has a fresh minty scent which is amazing in the morning to wake you up and energize your skin. I find that the cleanser gets rid of my excess oils and leaves a very clean mattifying feeling. If you have normal or dry skin this might dry you out but for my combo-oily skin people out there- you’ll love this.

Exfoliating + Pore Refining (Red Algae)

I really like how they made an exfoliator in this pure-clay range to throw in something different but necessary in a skincare routine. The cleanser isn’t a thick mousse but isn’t as liquidy as the green cleanser either. I think this cleanser has the same benefits as the last two, leaving your face fresh and clean. However, as an exfoliator I think that it could use more “exfoliants” to scrub the face more. I like an exfoliator that scrubs my face really well and I find that this one is definitely a lighter exfoliator which can be nice if you have sensitive, dry or normal skin. It also claims to refine the pores. I personally don’t have big pores so I couldn’t really tell if this claim is true or not.

Clear + Comfort Mask (Seaweed)

This mask is the newest release in their pure-clay mask line and it comes in a beautiful metallic blue colour! It claims to clear and comfort the skin. I really like the consistency of the pure-clay mask line in general, plus you only need a really thin layer. Once I took it off, it left my skin with a very clean feeling. However, I found that this mask didn’t do anything amazing or horrible to my skin. I didn’t notice any crazy differences but I’m glad that it didn’t break me out either. I think if you have normal skin, this mask would be a great introductory clay mask since most can be drying. Since my skin is combo-oily I found that it wasn’t “strong enough” to leave any lasting results which is fine since it doesn’t claim anything like that.

Bottom Line:

Of the three pure-clay cleansers, the black and green are definitely my favourite! I will continue to use them and think they are true to what the product claims describe. I don’t necessarily think that you need all three cleansers in your routine but using at least one will definitely benefit your skin. If you have dry skin and usually steer clear of clay products, I think these cleansers are a great introduction for getting it into your skin routine. As for the mask, I did like it but I don’t think I’ll repurchase it once I finish it. Overall, I think the pure-clay line is very innovative and definitely worth trying.

  2. Ooh this was an interesting read! I haven’t tried a clay cleanser yet but might have to get the black one and give it a whirl based on this. I also like the sound of the exfoliating one as my skin can be quite sensitive so I prefer a less rough exfoliator. Thanks for the review!

    1. Oh I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I think the exfoliator would be a great product for you 🙂 Thanks for reading!

    1. Highly recommend it 🙂 and I don’t think they’re supposed to be scents but the main ingredient in each product 🙂

  3. I have very oily skin so I’ll have to check these out! I love the smell of Eucalyptus and I’m so happy L’Oreal doesn’t test on animals so that I can give them a try.
