It’s been a long journey of finding out what skincare products work best for me. I used to have extremely acne-prone skin and suffered from cystic acne for years. Luckily, I eventually got rid of it and have been able to try other skincare products that aren’t geared towards acne. I’ll have a blog post dedicated to how I got rid of my acne, but in the meantime, these are the products I use on a daily basis.
The cleanser that I’ve been using the past year is the Purity Made Simple Cleanser. It’s perfect for all skin types and has a very creamy texture. At first the texture was weird to me, but now I love it. I use this to wash my face every morning and night and it’s very effective for getting rid of makeup which is a plus.
Regardless of what skin type you have, moisturizing is a must! Since I have combo-oily skin, I look for moisturizers that are oil-free and have a gel like texture. I’ve been using the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel for the past two years. The 4.2oz bottle lasts forever and I love that it comes in a pump. This product has gotten rid of the texture on my cheeks completely and always makes me feel refreshed. As weird as it sounds, I always look forward to putting this one my face.
Exfoliating is super important to get rid of dead skin and reveal fresh new skin. I use them about twice and week prefer exfoliators that aren’t too rough on the skin. I go between the Dr.Brandt Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant and The Body Shop Vitamin C Microdermabrasion Scrub. They both have a lovely citrus scent which is my favourite and great for mornings.
Face masks are probably my favourite when it comes to skincare. The one I use religiously when my skin needs some extra care is the Sephora Collection Purifying Mud Mask. This detoxes my skin, gets rid of excess oil and mattifies my face. It also really helped get rid of my acne over time. I currently use the Cup O’Coffee mask by Lush as well. Coffee grounds are known to have great skincare benefits like softening the skin, exfoliating and getting rid of uneven skintone. I use it to heal my past acne scars and to “wake me up”.
When I had cystic acne, I used the Kate Somerville Eradikate to treat my pimples. Every night I would dip my q-tip into the pink substance at the bottom and put them directly on my all pimples. Yes, it looks weird (which is why you do it at night) but it WORKS. I’m not sure if it’s because I turned 20 or because of this product, but by the time I finished the entire bottle my cystic acne was basically gone and it didn’t come back! I never repurchased Eradikate again because my acne never got bad again and I didn’t feel the need for it which is amazing!
