I’ve been on the hunt for a really good drugstore moisturizer that works on my combo-oily skin. I decided to try out the new L’Oreal Hydra Genius Liquid Moisturizer for Oily Skin. The Hydra Genius line has three moisturizers made for oily, dry and extra skin.

This is what the product description claims:

  • Mattifying effect: daily liquid care formula inspired by Korean skincare technology removes excess shine and gives matte finish.
  • Lightweight and non-greasy: glides on easily for quick absorption, instantly leaving skin more supple and softer. Smoother, anti-shine, with healthy glow.

Packaging: The moisturizer comes in a tall sleek glass bottle which is very heavy and luxurious. It also comes with a pump which I LOVE. Anything with a pump makes the application so much easier and more sanitary.

Formula: I agree 100% that the product is lightweight and non-greasy. The moisturizer itself is a thin clear gel-like texture that spreads easily and leaves my skin with a really smooth feeling. It left my face matte but not drying at all. Often times, moisturizers will leave me a greasy mess the next morning but this didn’t do that.

The only major con I have with the Hydra Genius moisturizer is the strength of the smell. It’s a very fresh and mature scent which is nice, but when putting it on, the scent still lingered on my face for almost an hour. However, after using it for more than a week the smell doesn’t bother me anymore.

Bottom Line: If you can get past the smell, this moisturizer is perfect for anyone with combo-oily skin. I think it would be best to use during the spring and summer months since it is lighter. Its lighter formula makes it great for a base underneath makeup as well. It’s also really nice to put on after a shower because it’s not too heavy.
